Based in Los Angeles, Lilly K Photography specializes in actor headshots and fashion photography for both children and adults. With Covid-19 limiting the possibility for in-person photo shoots, Lilly K Photography has been among the first photographers in the US to do remote photo shoots, and is now working on developing a new app that other photographers can use as well.
Remote photo shoots have been around for some time, but the current global pandemic has led to even more photographers exploring this approach. While it’s fairly easy to take screenshots using any of the available video conferencing apps, one of the technologies that have allowed photographers to create high-quality photographs remotely is tethering software. There are many companies providing a tethering option such as including Adobe Lightroom, and there is camera-specific software for Canon and Nikon equipment. Tethering software allows photographers to remotely control the camera so that photo shoots can take place remotely. Some tethering options are wireless, while others require the camera to be connected to the computer. This software has made it easier to do remote photo shoots that have typically been done via a conferencing app like Zoom, FaceTime, or Skype.
